Marvel's Wolverine was announced all the way back in 2021 and it's yet to reappear (in an official capacity, at least). As such, you can kind of forgive fans for feeling a little irked — but the constant demand for new information must still drive developer Insomniac Games up the wall.
Indeed, the studio can't post anything on social media without people bringing Wolverine up — and whoever's in charge of running Insomniac's accounts has had enough.
In response to one particular user on X (who, to be fair, came across rather rude), the developer writes: "We're actively working on Marvel's Wolverine for PS5. We'll share news about the game when *we* are ready to share it. That will always be our answer."
A bit prickly, perhaps, but sometimes you've just got to say it like it is. No amount of fan demand is going to push Insomniac into publishing new details before it's ready — especially when it's dealing with a property that belongs to Marvel.
"We can't act on everything requested when things take time, resources, and the greenlight to share them," the studio adds.
It's still unclear how far off Marvel's Wolverine actually is. Many had it pegged for a 2025 launch, and Insomniac refused to give anything away in an interview earlier this year.
It's entirely possible that we'll finally see more of the PS5 exclusive in the coming months, but it'll all depend on PlayStation's schedule. Remember, Ghost of Yotei's meant to release in 2025, Death Stranding 2 is dropping in June, and Marathon is looking like a lock. We'll need to see how it all pans out.
When do you think we'll catch our next glimpse of Marvel's Wolverine? Keep those claws sheathed in the comments section below.

Let the masters cook 😌
Jogurt sounding very entitled.
Sympathy is kinda low given they obviously revealed the game way too early. Not that any abuse they might've received is justified by that.
I think the approach of announcing a game within 12 months of when you hope to release it, as a trend, is a better way to go.
@BlaizeV Totally agree, but Wolverine's probably a special case since it's a Marvel property.
The contract Sony / Insomniac have with Marvel probably includes them announcing it as soon as production started.
At least, that's the only logical explanation I can think of, because we know how secretive Sony is with every other project.
Well maybe next time you and Sony shouldn't announce the game many years before you're even willing to show off Logan's face.
Maybe gamers just shouldn't be insufferable morons, nuff said.
The last wolverine game on PS3 was brutal I seem to remember. Hope more of the same with this one lol
While I agree PS5 has been a slow gen when it comes to first party, going after Insomniac is just silly when they’ve been the most prolific of all Sony’s studios.
If games are announced too early, people complain about them taking too long. If games are announced too late, people complain about nothing being worked on.
@ShogunRok
This checks out with basically every big Marvel game I can think of. Blade got announced when it barely started, 1943: Rise of Hydra got announced in 2021, Marvels Avengers got announced 3.5 years before release etc.
Yeah, the game was announced too early, but they are also totally within their rights to reply "No," when asked for an update.
The game will come when it's ready.so many games to play.my backlog of games to play is huge. Word up son
I'll never understand why Devs can't just use some kind of temporary lock on social media after they've used a platform to announce news/updates/etc. That way they can just focus on their work and not have to be hassled or hounded for updates until they are ready to share more. It shouldn't matter what some random anonymous person demands from you, but by giving them access like that it does.
@ChrisDeku also there is the fact that around the time this was revealed gamers were having a hissy fit because there were no games apparently. Maybe that’s why Sony got insom to put it out there 🤷♂️
@ChrisDeku Marvel Rivals didn’t get revealed until only a few months before launch
@ShogunRok I think it may have been to try and convince people that Sony weren't abandoning single player games.
Jim Ryan talked a lot in 2022 about there being a huge quantity of live service games incoming so if Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine weren't announced in 2021, people would've put the pieces together and came to the conclusion that GoW Ragnarok was the end of single player games and Sony sent all their studios to the live service mines.
i forgot about this game
Maybe don't show your game 4 years early lol.
“How DARE you show interest and excitement about a game we’ve been utterly radio silent on since it was announced!”
@Americansamurai1 Say that to Elder Scrolls 6....
Wolverine was my favorite X-MEN character and I could only afford one magazine, said my lazy parents even after I suggested they take on two jobs to provide for my needs.
The tenacity and voracity of this 1.6 meters high near-dwarf, I tell you his enemies were in for it if they kicked away his stool.
Removed - unconstructive
Hope this doesn't snowball and get as bad as the GOW Ragnarok harassment. I wish more people could just be normal and wait for info when it's ready.
@Oram77 any game that announces over 3 years is insane, looking at elder scrolls Metroid prime 4 and blade As well
I’ll just get Marvel Cosmic Invasion and continue playing Marvel Snap in the meanwhile.
@Vladspartan Garbage company? Really?
Why even respond lol, you know the track record of a developer that always delivers, a lot of people don’t understand the logistics of game development like time scale and how resources even work hell they even think they can develop it under their terms and do better with 0 experience 😂. Save your breath Insomniac, too many ragebait entitled gamers rotting the internet these days.
Yes, it was stupid to announce game and be silent for 4 years, but on the other hand 4 years... 4 years of development!!! are they working on it 1 hour per week, or what???
You guys do realize they had a devastating hack, which leaked huge parts of the game and the story. That might have something to do with the delay? 🤷🏻♂️
I feel for Insomniac, the most prolific first party studio, getting so much heat for this. Meanwhile Elder Scrolls 6 was announced before this, i think?
Edit: Apparently, ES6 was announced in 2018 🤯
Not to mention Fable, Perfect Dark, State of Decay (2020) and Everwild (2019)
I dont see people ‘harassing’ those developers. Most are just ‘excited’ and ‘letting them cook’. Although it probably happens as well, we just dont hear about it as often as with Insomniac
This is why I will always take the stance that video games are revealed way too early. Reveal them when they are about a year to two years from release.
Hopefully, the game will be worth the wait and not a single-player version of Suicide Squad.
Imagine trying to clamp down and work on a game with your team and you check social media and there's clowns saying you're ignoring fans and are terrible.
Let Insomniac cook people.
I’m really shocked that any of these people that have any status to their name would actually interact with people online without a persona.
Hell, I’m a nobody and I use a persona.
I think the problem is that the game was revealed before it was even really in active development. On top of that, the Insomniac hack really screwed things up. That said, we are approaching 4 years so it would seem that it's getting close to being ready to show off.
@djlard You think 4 years is a long development cycle? Thats like the bare minimum for a triple A game nowadays
Don't Care how long I have to wait. Hope Gambit and Cable are in the game!
@LogicStrikesAgain
I was looking through the comments to see if someone else had pointed out the hack.
Im sure the last thing I heard back then was that Insomniac were intending to more or less start again from scratch, at least in terms of story, due to how much had been maliciously leaked.
Announces game four years ago and goes silent. Gets annoyed that gamers keep asking about game announced four years ago.
Idk why they even responded. When theyre ready to show something theyll show it. Go play the thousands of other games available. Give attention to the many that are releasing soon.
Yes it sucks when a game is announced that early but if its for investors and recruiting purposes like others have said than so be it. Then there was the leak that happened which probs caused a lot of chaos for the team. So I doubt theyre just ignoring the fans who are eagerly waiting. It really sucks seeing how some people treat the actual devs who are making the games they love so much. Please be better
@Rich33 Yeah, i vaguely remember reading something like that as well. Huge parts of the story were leaked. And seeing as this is a narrative focused game, you can’t fault them for wanting to change some things here and there
@Paramahansa Honestly, I’d be a bit annoyed too if they sarcastically said “such a great team” to my team.
And they’re not silent, it feels like Insomniac has been saying this quite a few times already lately.
They will show the game when they are ready. Who knows, maybe it’s planned for next year but they can’t show it until a later showcase, as not to interfere with marketing for titles coming out this year
Maybe don't announce a game way too early. 💀
The fact that it might come out after 2027 is a massive joke. By the time it releases, we'll be getting the PS6. 😭
This is also why long development times is bad and Sony's refusal to make AA games in between big releases hurts them. Maybe PS5 would've been worth playing while waiting for the big AAA exclusives.
@Vladspartan what are you babbling about? 😂😂
Yeah guys we need to be patient. The game will probably come in 2036 on the ps9
Go play Hollow Knight Silksong whilst you're waiting gamers 😀
@LogicStrikesAgain
Cant blame them at all for wanting to change things, both from a practical point of view, but also there may be something else at work here - from a psychological point of view, can you imagine if something you had worked hard on like this had been stolen and had been leaked all over the place like it was - they may have have felt that what they had was now 'soiled' and they were wanting to redo whatever Sony were willing to let them redo, and given the timeline, I suspect that was quite a fair bit of it.
Insomniac have been MVPs this gen for Sony - I think certain other people should give them space, and respect, and just look forwards to the game.
I wouldn't blame insomniac one bit if, given the circumstances (ie following the hack), they really lost their **** at 1 of the many rude and entitled people on (anti)"social" media.
Even if the game was done - its Sony that has the call when to announce it.
@DennisReynolds True, that's honestly the one thing I'm getting sick of which is developers announcing a game YEARS before it's even started on. It just happened with Space Marine 3.
No sympathy; you revealed the game years too early and released a major disappointment in Spider-Man 2. Do better.
SM2 left such a sour taste in my mouth I may even wait for reviews before I even put any effort into caring for this.
I think that jerk is on to something. We should wait patiently for them to say nothing about this game they announced 4 years, practically a gaming console generation, ago.
So my new rule is, I'll buy a game as long after it releases as the amount of time between the announcement and release, with a year for marketing. So anything announced I want within a year I can purchases day 1. Anything announced more than a year out that's how long I wait to buy it. Who knows, I wait long enough we're looking $5 bargain bin for a $70 game, complete w/ the $20 dlc.
So thanks arrogant ahole guy, you've just saved me a fortune.
@LogicStrikesAgain But that is not my problem they cannot work faster... 4 years may be for one worker.
No surprises there, people are very entitled. Pressure to release a game asap doesn't help anyone, take Cyberpunk 2077 as an example.
When it's ready Insomniac put effort in for the time they take.
Audiences want quality and have no patience sure make them speed it up it will make it worse.
Also visuals eh gameplay any day but they want visuals to sell GPUs/TVs.
Or it takes time for particular set pieces so no doubt takes a while to progro, animation, design, make textures, formulate it into something.
People impatient or don't get games need to wait or do research.
Then again I don't care it will be a fine game of quality, who knows combat, who knows mission structure, will have to see and there is past Wolverine games to play or comics to read.
Midnight Suns was the most basic dumbed down tactics game and Spiderman is ok but didn't appeal to me in mission design or generic outposts compared to Sunset Overdrive 's tower defence or Moveset side missions.
Wolverine could be a good combat game though just what structure of linear or open world will it be hmm.
I enjoy a good hack n slash.
@ShogunRok Well its a bit of a problem with gamers its never good and why are they obliged to answer something. They said it enough we will tell you when there is news. Also a back didnt help them. Let's be real gamers are the worst group around.
Never liked the character so not bothered but they should have kept it quiet till they were close to ready. Pretending like they don't know this is what gaming community has become is silly. Or you know..just stay off SM till you are ready.
Hey Jogurt, i dont go make burgers where you work and then tell you how to make burgers
If it's not ready to show then it's not ready. You can't keeps asking the chef over and over if your food is ready or not. Just let them cook.
But my guess for other reason is since Sony has:
Sony marketing division possibly still find a good schedule where they can show Wolverine without overlapping with those games marketing / release.
And yeah, there's GTA 6 which many publishers avoid to release their games in the same day or week with the juggernaut.
@ChrisDeku there's also the EA Motive Iron Man game announced in 2022, that went dark afterwards.
All this debacle for the only big 1st party studio to release a PS5 exclusive, & they've managed 2. They made a mistake announcing it so early 100%, but as said before me it seems like a Disney-Marvel contract thing to announce games as soon as possible.
